Telmisartan

Effects and efficacy:
Treatment of primary hypertension in adults.

Usage and dosage:
Telmisartan can be taken during or after meals. Please follow the doctor’s advice. Treatment of primary hypertension: Dosing should be individualized. The usual initial dose is 40 mg once a day. The antihypertensive effect of telmisartan is dose-related within the dose range of 20-80 mg. If the ideal blood pressure is not reached after medication, the dose can be increased appropriately, with the maximum dose being 80 mg once a day. Please follow the doctor’s advice for details. It can be used in combination with thiazide diuretics (such as hydrochlorothiazide), which have a synergistic antihypertensive effect with telmisartan. Because telmisartan usually takes 4-8 weeks after the start of treatment to exert its maximum antihypertensive effect, if you consider increasing the drug dose, you should consider the duration of medication. It usually takes 7-14 days to adjust the dose. If the patient has obvious symptoms and the condition is urgent, the dose adjustment period can be shortened. Please follow the doctor’s advice for details. Reducing cardiovascular risk: The recommended dose is 80 mg once a day. It is not clear whether telmisartan at doses below 80 mg can effectively reduce the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. When starting telmisartan treatment to reduce cardiovascular risk, it is recommended to closely monitor blood pressure and adjust antihypertensive drugs appropriately if necessary. Please follow your doctor’s advice for details. Special population medication Liver impairment: Patients with mild or moderate liver impairment should not take more than 40 mg of telmisartan per day. Renal impairment: Patients with mild or moderate renal impairment generally do not need to adjust the dose of this product. There is limited experience with telmisartan in patients with severe renal impairment or hemodialysis. In such patients, it is recommended to reduce the starting dose to 20 mg once a day. It is recommended that patients with renal impairment use telmisartan to monitor serum potassium and serum creatinine regularly. There is no experience with the use of telmisartan in patients with recent renal transplantation.
