Niacin (nicotinic acid)(nicotinamide,niacinamide)

Effects and efficacy:
Applicable to the prevention and treatment of niacin deficiency and pellagra. Used to treat migraine, headache, cerebral artery thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, inner ear vertigo, frostbite, central retinochoroiditis. Large doses can also be used in combination with other lipid-regulating drugs to lower blood lipids, reduce the recurrence of myocardial infarction in patients with hyperlipidemia; delay the progression of coronary artery sclerosis; treat hypertriglyceridemia with the risk of pancreatitis.

Usage and dosage:
For the treatment of pellagra, adults take 50~100mg orally once, 500mg a day. If there is stomach discomfort, it is advisable to take it with milk or during meals. Generally, vitamin B1, B2, and B3 are taken at the same time. Intramuscular injection 50~100mg once, 5 times a day. Intravenous slow injection 25~100mg once, 2 or more times a day. Children take 25~50mg orally once, 2~3 times a day. Intravenous injection 25~100mg once, 2 times a day, intravenous slow injection. Lipid regulation (generally using sustained-release tablets) is taken after dinner and before bedtime. Initial treatment starts with a low dose, and then the dose is gradually increased. This should also be the case for patients who have discontinued treatment with this product for a long time or have previously received other niacin products. During treatment, niacin products cannot be used to replace this product. After 7 weeks of maintenance treatment, the doctor will determine the dosage and duration of medication suitable for the individual. If the patient does not respond adequately to 1000 mg/d, the dose can be increased to 2000 mg/d. The increase in daily dose within 4 weeks should not exceed 500 mg, and the maximum daily dose is 2000 mg.

Adverse reactions:
Toxic reactions rarely occur when renal function is normal. Adverse reactions of this product include: Cardiovascular: arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation, edema, hypotension, syncope (rare). Central nervous system: tremor, dizziness, headache, insomnia, migraine, tension. Skin: acanthosis nigricans, burning sensation of the skin, dry skin, pigmentation, maculopapular rash, itchy skin, urticaria. Endocrine and metabolism: impaired glucose tolerance, hyperuricemia, gout, hypophosphatemia. Digestive system: abdominal pain, elevated amylase, diarrhea, indigestion, nausea, peptic ulcer, vomiting, hiccups, abdominal distension, liver necrosis (rare), hepatitis, jaundice, elevated transaminases (transient), prolonged PT, elevated total bilirubin. Musculoskeletal: elevated CPK, leg cramps, myalgia, muscle weakness, myopathy, hemiplegia, rhabdomyolysis (rare), fatigue. Eyes: blurred vision, macular cystic edema, toxic amblyopia. Blood system: thrombocytopenia.
