metronidazole

Effects and efficacy:
It is mainly used to treat or prevent systemic or local infections caused by sensitive anaerobic bacteria, such as infections in the abdominal cavity, digestive tract, female reproductive system, lower respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue, bones and joints. It is used to treat intestinal and extraintestinal amebiasis (such as amoebic liver abscess, pleural amebiasis, etc.). It can also be used to treat vaginal trichomoniasis, balantidiasis and cutaneous leishmaniasis, guinea worm infection, etc. In addition, metronidazole is often used in combination with tetanus antitoxin (TAT) to treat tetanus.

Usage and dosage:
Common dosage for intravenous drip in adults: For anaerobic infection, the first intravenous administration is 15mg/kg body weight (1g for 70kg adults), and the maintenance dose is 7.5mg/kg body weight, intravenous drip once every 6-8 hours. The common dosage for children is the same as that for adults. Please consult a doctor for details. Oral administration for adults: Amebiasis: intestinal amebiasis, 0.4-0.6g once, 3 times a day, for a course of 7 days; extraintestinal amebiasis, 0.6-0.8g once, 3 times a day, for a course of 20 days. Giardiasis: 0.4g once, 3 times a day, for a course of 5-10 days. Guinea worm disease: 0.2g once, 3 times a day, for a course of 7 days. Balantidiasis: 0.2g once, 2 times a day, for a course of 5 days. Cutaneous leishmaniasis: 0.2g once, 4 times a day, for a course of 10 days; repeat a course after an interval of 10 days. Trichomoniasis: 0.2g once, 4 times a day, for a course of 7 days; suppositories can be used at the same time, 0.5g inserted into the vagina every night, for 7-10 days. Anaerobic infection: oral administration: 0.6-1.2g per day, divided into 3 doses, for a course of 7-10 days. For children with amoebiasis, take 35-50 mg/kg of body weight orally in 3 divided doses per day for 10 days as a course of treatment. For giardiasis, take 15-25 mg/kg of body weight orally in 3 divided doses per day for 10 consecutive days; the dosage for treating dracunculiasis, balantidiasis, and trichomoniasis is the same as that for giardiasis. For anaerobic infection, take 20-50 mg/kg of body weight orally per day. Metronidazole oral gargle. Take 10-20 ml at a time, hold for 30 seconds and then gargle, 3-4 times a day, for one week as a course of treatment. Metronidazole buccal tablets: Place this product between the gums and the gingival-buccal groove and hold it in the mouth (for oral ulcers that adhere to the affected part of the mucosa). Take 1 tablet at a time, 3 times a day, after meals, and take 1 tablet before going to bed. Metronidazole gel for topical use. After cleaning the affected area, apply an appropriate amount of this product to the affected area, once in the morning and once in the evening. For rosacea erythema, 2 weeks as a course of treatment, combined use for 8 weeks; inflammatory papules and pustules, 4 weeks as a course of treatment. Metronidazole syrup is administered vaginally, 5 ml at a time, 1-2 times a day, once before getting up in the morning and before going to bed at night, 5-7 days as a course of treatment. Metronidazole suppository is administered vaginally, take a plastic fingertip, put it on the index finger, take out the suppository, hold the lower end of the suppository, and gently insert it deep into the vagina. Once a night, 1 tablet at a time, for 7-10 days; metronidazole tablets should be taken at the same time, 0.2g each time, 4 times a day, for 7 consecutive days.
