Effects and efficacy:
When ketorolac tromethamine is used systemically, it is mainly used for short-term treatment of acute and severe pain that requires opioid-level analgesics. It is usually used for postoperative analgesia and is not suitable for the treatment of mild or chronic pain. This product is used locally in the eye and is suitable for seasonal allergic conjunctivitis and inflammatory reactions after intraocular surgery.
Usage and dosage:
Oral preparations of ketorolac tromethamine are only used for follow-up treatment of ketorolac tromethamine injections. The specific usage and dosage should be in accordance with the doctor’s advice. Single injection medication Adult patients intramuscular injection dose: under 65 years old, 60 mg once; 65 years old or above, renal damage or weight less than 50kg, 30 mg once. Intravenous injection dose: under 65 years old, 30 mg; 65 years old or above, renal damage or weight less than 50kg, 15 mg once. Patients aged 2 to 16 years old only receive a single dose. Intramuscular injection dose: 1 mg/kg once, the maximum dose does not exceed 30 mg. Intravenous injection dose: 0.5 mg/kg once, the maximum dose does not exceed 15 mg. Multiple injections for adults Multiple doses: IV or IM. For those under 65 years of age, 30 mg IV or IM is recommended every 6 hours, with a maximum daily dose of no more than 120 mg. For those 65 years of age or older, with renal impairment, or weighing less than 50 kg (110 pounds), 15 mg IV or IM is recommended every 6 hours, with a maximum daily dose of no more than 60 mg. For rebound pain, there is no need to increase the dose or frequency. Unless contraindicated, consider giving low-dose opioids at the same time to eliminate pain. Precautions for injection Adults: The continuous use of injection and oral ketorolac tromethamine preparations generally does not exceed 5 days. The IV injection time of this product is not less than 15 seconds; the intramuscular injection is slowly administered and injected deeper into the muscle. The analgesic effect begins within 30 minutes after IV or IM injection, reaches the maximum analgesic effect after 1 to 2 hours, and the analgesic effect lasts for 4 to 6 hours. Pediatric patients: The safety and efficacy of this product for single-dose use in pediatric patients aged 2 to 16 years have been confirmed; however, there is a lack of research data on multiple-dose use in pediatric patients. The safety and efficacy of this product for children under 2 years of age have not been determined. This product can be used in combination with morphine or pethidine to reduce the dosage of opioids. The recommended doses for oral medication for adults who switch to oral therapy after intravenous or intramuscular injection of ketorolac tromethamine are as follows. Under 65 years old: single intramuscular injection of 60 mg, single intravenous injection of 30 mg, or multiple doses of 30 mg, first oral 20 mg, then oral 10 mg every 4 to 6 hours, the maximum oral dose does not exceed 40 mg/24 hours. 65 years or older, renal impairment or weight less than 50 kg (110 pounds): single intramuscular injection of 30 mg, single intravenous injection of 15 mg, or multiple doses of 15 mg, first oral 10 mg, then oral 10 mg every 4 to 6 hours, the maximum oral dose does not exceed 40 mg/24 hours. Shortening the recommended dosing interval may increase the severity and frequency of adverse reactions. Eye drops are applied into the eye. For the treatment of seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, 1 drop at a time, 4 times a day or as directed by a doctor. For postoperative inflammation of the eye, 1 drop once within 24 hours after surgery, 4 times a day, for 2 weeks.
