Infliximab is a tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) inhibitor, a biologic drug, mainly used to treat autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and psoriasis. It improves symptoms and delays disease progression by blocking the inflammatory effects of TNF-α. It must be used strictly according to the doctor’s instructions, and the dose cannot be adjusted or discontinued on your own.
Drug Action and Indications
Mechanism of Action: Binds to excess TNF-α in the body and inhibits its interaction with receptors, thereby reducing inflammatory responses and tissue damage.
Indications:
Moderate to severe active rheumatoid arthritis (often used in combination with methotrexate).
Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis (for patients who are ineffective with traditional treatment or hormone-dependent).
Ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis and severe plaque psoriasis.
Precautions for Use
Risk of Infection: May increase the probability of bacterial, viral or fungal infection, and is contraindicated in patients with active infection. Before taking the medicine, latent infections such as tuberculosis and hepatitis B need to be screened.
Allergic reaction: Some patients may experience infusion reactions (such as fever and rash). In severe cases, the drug should be stopped and treated immediately.
Long-term monitoring: Regularly check blood routine, liver and kidney function, and pay attention to opportunistic infections or rare side effects (such as lymphoma risk).
Contraindications and side effects
Contraindications: People with active infection, uncontrolled tuberculosis or hepatitis B, moderate to severe heart failure, and allergies to drug ingredients.
Common side effects:
Infusion reaction (headache, nausea).
Respiratory tract infection, abnormal liver function.
Rare but serious side effects include demyelinating lesions, blood system abnormalities, etc.
Medication guidance
Dosage method: Intravenous infusion, dosage and frequency are adjusted according to the type of disease and patient weight.
Medical advice: A comprehensive assessment of medical history and infection risk is required before treatment; if symptoms such as fever, persistent cough, and abnormal fatigue occur during medication, seek medical attention in a timely manner.
Tip: Infliximab is a prescription drug and must be used under the guidance of a professional doctor. Close follow-up and relevant examinations are required during treatment.
